It is not a secret that Freus is not the best choice for Las Vegas residents, due to high calcium levels in our water. Calcium builds up inside of the condenser unit with very high rate, which causes components to prematurely fail. We have tried different methods to keep these units running clean and calcium free, but have always failed. Therefore, unfortunately, calcium prevention maintenance with a guarantee cannot be offered by us. The poor design of the one piece solid fiberglass shell of the unit, does not allow any access to the condensing coil woven tightly in the heart of the shell, with constant contact with water. This is where the majority of failures appear. Calcium fills the gaps between the tubing of the condenser coil, slowly restricting water flow, causing insufficient cooling of the condenser coil, causing it crack, creating a freon leak. Although this is normally an easy repair on any other conventional Air Conditioner, the Freus at this point becomes un-repairable in need of total replacement. Another common issue, is the the water pump failure, also mostly caused by calcium buildup.
All of the mentioned issues do not change the fact that a large number of Freus units are still cooling Las Vegas residents and not all of them are ready to be condemned. But we have been very successful in repairing and replacing broken parts to extend the life of these units to the absolute maximum.
